I am writing a compare and contrast essay and I was going along the lines of comparing them as tragic heros.

Both are wonderful plays. I will contrast them for you. While Romeo let the friar find a way out for him so he could be with Juliet (a way that in the end didnt work anyway), John Proctor stayed and took responsibility for his actions. He was a much more honorable person than Romeo was. He refused to admit to being a witch when those simple words would have saved his life.

Hmm... I kind of slept through Romeo and Juliet in high school but I'd say they both had a forbidden romance. (John and his affair with Abbigail and, obviously, Romeo and Juliet's families hated each other) Like Romeo where juliet's family hated him, Reverand Parris wasn't too fond of Proctor. (At least that was my impression) They both fought and died for love.
Hope that helps

That's a good line to follow, but I suggest you read the books, and make the connections yourself. You've apparently got the imagination to do that, and will learn more that way - which is the point. And doing it yourself, you may well see issues others wouldn't. Getting answers from others may only limit your vision - look for them only when you've done all you can for yourself. Good luck

this could sound extraordinary, yet as quickly as I pay attention it, like a fishing internet is composed of ideas for romeo and for juliet, tributaries spring to ideas... First a internet, the the tributaries...extraordinary huh?
