and the two codes that came up were 700 ( shift solenoid b malfunction) and 755 ( transmission control system malfunction). Did 755 come up as a result of 700, or are they separate problems? Also, is it a costly repair? I know transmission repair is costly, but are we talking about all out replacement? 2002 Dodge Neon w/101K, automatic.

They are most likely related, but with Chrysler you never know for sure until you actually look.
PROBABLY not a total failure (yet) but don't keep driving it like that any more than absolutely necessary, or major failure is virtually guaranteed!
Take it to a reputable transmission shop and ask for an estimate. Failure is most likely control electronics, and can be repaired without removal.

i own a repair shop and the one code came up because of the other one, more than likely it was an intermittent occurrence, and may not happen again,it could have been caused by a low level of oil in it or a sudden stop or start,or a kick down while it was going to shift, also a dirty filter will set this off, because it temporarily slows down the rate of fluid to it,and it will set one ,code off,and the way this thing works one code will cause the other one to pop up on it,if it does this again id take it and have the fluid and filter changed in it ,don't let them talk you in to flushing it,just change the fluid and filter, and also have then check the wires for the shift solenoid on it,good luck,i hope this helps.
