it is absoloutely the most fun job u can hav, i've been an emt/ firefighter for about 6 months and i cant see myself ever doing anything else. u need to be in shape although the training isnt as tough as some people make it out to be.as for paperwork i do a report n about 15 minutes now. im newly married and i fell through a roof two weeks ago, i didnt get hurt, jus a couple bruises, so i decided not to tell my wife because she is always worried about me. while i was falling she was the only one on my mind. so there is definitely a stress factor, but u r trained to try to deal with it, and there is counselling system in place in my organisation and u also hav ur brothers to depend on too, i wont trade those idiots for anything. u r thinking of going into a great career, my suggestion is, talk to your dad and i'm sure he can help you better than anyone else online. good luck

I started schooling for nursing, not EMT, but at least the same field. The training starts with the basics and is actually a bit deceiving. You can get complacent if your not carefull.
Study hard in the beginning to get the basics as second nature, because when the meat of any medical training kicks in it does get very fast paced. You will not have the time to go back and relearn anything.
So, learn the basics like the terminology, A&P, math, and lab work really well in the beginning when the pace is slower and you should do just fine when it picks up.
And for me the paper work wasnt a big deal, it was all that lab work.

The training is fairly difficult. You have to learn a lot of medical terms and be almost an expert in first aid. You have to remain cool under pressure and not faint at the sight of blood or injuries.
If you are somewhat squeamish the EMT field is not for you.
The is a good bit of paperwork and it must be accurate and precise regarding times and each procedure or thing done.
