we should not.

The main advantage of machines over workers is that you do not need to keep them happy. They work no matter what weather it is, what happened to machine next to them, how their manufacturer is doing, etc.

Mechanical maintenance on machine is much cheaper than keeping a human worker happy (which takes high salary, benefit, respectful and encouraging management, etc)
Adding emotion to machines would eliminate that advantage.

A few uses for AI with emotions:
1. Scientific - Better understanding of emotions
2. Terapeutic - talk to emotional ai as psychological treatment
3. recreational - electronic pets (like Furby, Aibo, etc.)

I can imagine an AI that is in an emotionally fixed modum of depression because of some reason like maybe not enough electricity running through its system and therefor does not want to solve my problems for me.
