EG8 1.5 Fuel Injected Single Cam automatic Vtec Civic....for some weird reason i can't get a good reading on the dip stick ....i assume to check the tranny oil the engine have to be running (ON) but when i dip the stick & pull it out the entire stick is full with tranny oil....i can't get a reading.....can anyone please help me out here ....i don't know if i'm checking the oil the wrong way.....if so i need to know....

For an auto trans, yes you should have the engine running and the trans in 'Park'. Pull the dipstick out once, wipe the dipstick off, then insert all the way in, and immediately pull it back out. When I pull them out, I keep the bottom down and lean/tilt it so one edge is slightly closer to the ground than the other. It may be hard to see, but you should notice where the oil is on both edges of the dipstick.

you have an "obstruction motor" meaning while the timing belt breaks the valves will hit the pistons (which you already be attentive to). in view which you replaced the top and had it tension examined earlier i could wager it isn't the difficulty. you will have cracked the block, or improperly put in the top, inflicting oil to leak into the water jackets and or combustion chambers. the only different factor i will think of of is: did you flush out the radiator and engine block in the previous you replaced the top? must be some residual oil left over from while the timing belt first broke. you additionally could have broken a piston, inflicting oil to get into the combustion chamber. If the smoke is white, this is likely coolant, and in spite of if this is a grayish blue this is likely oil burning off.

i own a repair shop ,and if you,ll let it warm all the way up it will give you a better reading on it,right now the level will read real high on it as long as its still cool,but once it reaches operating temperature it should settle down a lot,i know a lot of these are really hard to check the level on,i own a dodge that's like that it takes for ever to check it,but it will be easier when its all warmed up,good luck i hope this helps.

try checking it after its been sitting for a while then start it pull the stick out and wipe it off then put it back in and pull it out and check it make sure car is on level ground smell it also and see if it bas aburnt smell or if it is brownish red then it needs changed and if it smells burnt you will be having tranny problems in the future .should have it flushed every 12k-24k miles
