There are days one needs to be slapped the dumb out of them - but not physically. You do have a right to voice your opinion. But never use language that is disrespectful, like shut it. Voice your opinion in a way that you would feel good repeating to your own child. Respect earns respect. If she doesn't like what you say, walk away and take it up at another time. And by the way, I don't think she should have slapped you, but might have been justified if you weren't respectful. I know, not right in days like these. I just think there are times it is needed. I don't know what went on, however. I really hope things get better between you two! There is no one better that knows you (in most cases) than your mom! God Bless!

If I was your mom I don't think I had the right to slap your face as you are now adult. However, I would have a few choice words for that "shut it" regardless of i was in the wrong. C'mon where's the R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

True you are very much so valued to your own opinion as an adult but regardless if she is wrong or not you still must respect your mom... thats disrespectful to tell your mom to shut it~ like she's one of your homegirls or something no she is your mother and she deserves the upmost respect for bringing you into this world. There are other ways you can go about situations as such but parents will always believe they are right in any situation I think~ so just politely give your opinion but in a more respectful manner~

I would never hit my child no matter their age but you should think of something more respectful to say to her when voicing your opinion rather than 'shut it'. But you do as a human being, not just an adult, have the right to your opinion.

I'm not in the business of slapping loved ones. Or anyone else, for that matter. I don't know how the two of you normally communicate (my mum and I trade offensive comments for laughs, but if we were in serious conversation, I'd be respectful), but it sounds like you were a bit insensitive, and she over-reacted. You have every right to voice your opinion without being slapped, though try to be respectful in so doing.

It depends on if she left the front door open,if she didn't then you would both be wrong, but your mom shouldn't slap your face, and you shouldn't tell your mom to shut it,shut up,or shut anything besides the front door she left open, now the cat got out mom!

I struggle with the relationship with my mom as well, I am an adult and I choose how to live my life and I make my own mistakes and deal with the consequences and I also make my own decisions. And whenever she trys to run my life or tell me something I just tell her I dont want to hear it and I tell her I am an adult if I need her to voice something i will ask her, and I just tell her to respect me enough to let me be my own person. I dont think you should tell her to shut it, or anything that is physical just tell her how you feel.

It is never all right for one adult to hit another adult...regardless of birth rites.......
You may be adult enough to voice your opinion but are you mature enough to do it in an adult manner? I am not beating up on you.....honest.
Sometimes it is best to just give an opinion and let the pins fall where they may....understand? Sounds like you two have a power control fight..........

I know when I am wrong. I would have shut up a long time ago. But in any case. No one has the right to strike you. Remember that.
