Much of which is known re Abraham Lincoln is in and around Springfield, Illinois. He was a self taught lawyer and practiced law both in trial law and in corporate law. He was well known for his excellent work. Too much is made of the log cabin and back woods rail splitting. For a time he was chief counsel for the Illinois Central Railroad. His home is still standing. He is buried in Springfield in a specially built tomb. It is covered with many tons of concrete to prevent his grave being robbed. He, of course, had many a Southerner who hated him with a passion.

Sadly he did not live to carry out his second term. He was the very best hope for the old states of the Confederacy. He had promised a swift and fair return of the states to the Union. But his enemies stupidly killed him.

He actually snuck away from the White House periodically to "overhear" religious ceremonies at a nearby Church.
He was a great fan of Shakespeare, which he read by the light of a fireplace in his wood cabin as a boy. His favorite line was, "Oh, mine guilt is black." From Macbeth, I think.
(OK, he was a depressive, and borderline Schizoid.) He knew the Bible by heart, and quoted from it, or plagiarized Jesus words when he said, A house divided against itself cannot stand. Evidement, as the French say.

He would give thanks to his wife, Mary Todd, I believe.
