It all depends on what your cable provider is offering in your area. Some companies offer 50 channels, other 70. The key is to check with your company. In fact, in some markets the beginning basic cable package only offers 20-30 channels. You have to do some minor upgrades to get to the 50-70 channels that do not require you to step up to a digital cable box.

If you get basic cable that wil only get your local netwrok channels-ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX,etc.-it's what you would get if you had a good antenna on your tv (maybe 20 channels depending on your area) it's usually under $20/m. You probably want to go with expanded basic for more variety-you will get channels such as MTV,ESPN,HGTV,A&E,etc.(maybe 60-70 channels depending on your area) it's usually under $60/m.
Buyer beware this is the last year for basic cable at any level, next year companies are mandated to go all digital to get any service on your tv. Meaning you will have to rent or buy a digital box for your tv to work at all ...bottom line ...more $$$.

It depends on your cable provider, but probably about 60. Try going to your local cable provider's website and looking at their basic package.
