Where can I take a free I.Q. test online that is accurate?

No IQ test you find online will necessarily be accurate. Many say that they are based off the "real" IQ tests, and this may be the case, but that doesn't make them accurate.

There are many things that can influence results on an IQ test. For instance, the types of questions offered can make a big difference. If you only measure a person's intelligence through reading, you are not getting an accurate picture. One person might be very good at reading, and they could score really high. Another person might be a poor reader, but have higher skills in other areas. This person would probably receive a lower score than they should.

Also, most legitimate tests have tried to eliminate testing bias as much as possible. Test bias comes into play when the wording of a question favors a particular group. An example of test bias would be giving a child who speaks Spanish an IQ test in English, and then expecting them to do very well. In fact, a lawsuit was brought up in (I think) California over just this type of situation years ago.

Finally, legitimate tests have been given to a large number of people and "normed" for that set. This means that averages were taken on how people perform and what not. These tests go through rigorous standards to be made. They're created, go through test runs, are revised, and then normed repeatedly to be as accurate as possible.

Because of this, no test, particularly no free test, on the internet is going to give you that type of answer. And the real ones are not going to be available because of security reasons.

If it's very important to you to have an accurate IQ test, then I would suggest trying to take the WAIS (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale) if you're over 16. This scale is the best overall, in my opinion, and has different subtests that look at different aspects of intelligence. It's a great test, and the results are about as accurate as you can get. If you don't know where to go to get one done, you could ask your family doctor, or ask a counseling center. Actually, you could also ask a local university, as most have testing centers that provide IQ tests.

If you just want to know for fun...well, you can always use Yahoo. Take any one of the free tests, and enjoy the number it gives you. but just be aware that nothing out there is going to be accurate.

Check with the psychology department at the closest university or community college. Most college psychology programs offer this test to the public free of charge. It is usually administered by graduate students who are studying tests and measurements. I wouldn't recommend an IQ test that is offered through any web site, if you are seeking accurate results... These tests are not standardized, and will only give you a rough "estimate" of what your IQ score would be if you took a standardized test.
