Most of my friends that are in 11th grade and taking English 3 Honors, American History, Chemistry Honors, and Algebra 2 Honors told me that next year they are only going to take English 4 Honors and American Gov't/Economics Honors while the rest are just easy regular electives. I'm going to take 5 honors, 1 or 2 AP and 1 regular elective but they said that I exaggerate too much and I should just chill in my senior year. They make a good point but I don't want to be a slacker in my last year of high school. What should I do?

The classes are going to be: English 4 Hon, Amer. Gov't/Ec. Hon, Pre-Calculus Hon, Physics Hon, Anatomy Hon, AP Chemstry (double period), Naval Science 4. (and maybe AP Biology, too.)

It's a tough question and since I just signed up for my senior year classes today, I know what you're going through!

A lot of it depends on the person and what you want to try and focus on in life. One of my friends wants to go to art school and is therefore signed up for three art classes during the day, omitting science. I on the other hand am going more of your route and loading up with the AP's and honors to try and get out of them in college.

I would say that you don't want to do anything you can't handle, but if this is what you've normally done, you're okay. Colleges focus on your junior year grades and the classes you sign up for senior year to see how far you're pushing yourself.

Plus, after AP tests, all you really have is your senior project, or, if you have a nicer teacher, you have what's basically a free period anyway! Besides, a lot of teachers senior year understand what you are going through and will sympathize with someone who has taken a harder courseload as opposed to someone who is breezing through senior year.

No matter what you choose, just make sure you're happy with it. And if you're unsure about AP's, just try and think of the enormous benefit they can be to you in the future! And on the bright side, you'll be ready for college if you maintain a rigorous schedule senior year! Just don't over do it!

Good luck!

Try to strike a balance. Colleges also look at what you are doing your last year and if you are slacking off. Don't over do but at the same time don't slack. Find a balance. Slacking too much will make it harder when you start college, since you will be out of swing. Take the AP classes at least.

If in doubt talk to your counselor. But don't base your choices on what your friends are doing.

don't let Senioritis get to you! I know it's your last year but come on you can do it. Just because it's 12th grade don't slack off. Colleges will still look at what you're taking 12th grade. When I did my applications they all had a part where you listed the classes you were taking that year. They don't want to see just "government... college prep math... art... shop... " Also some colleges require mid-year reports!

If you plan on going to college it is not wise to just coast through senior year. Colleges want to see that you are still chalenging yourself.
