I have been friends with this girl for years, and she wants to charge me for doing my hair. I have paid her in the past, but now she lives a great distance away from me. The expectation is that I am now going to travel and pay her for styling my hair. I could go to a (neighborhood/closer) salon, and pay amost the same price for the same service. I also have people offering to do my hair (for free), but do not want to break my loyalty to my friend...What to do??

I'd say if she's treating this like a business arrangement instead of something you'd do for a friend for free, then treat it as a service that you could get anywhere. Go ahead then and go closer to home, if you have to pay for it anyway, might as well save on gas. If she's charging you to cut your hair then she's not really doing it for 'fun' anyway, and she might not mind having to cut it any more. Maybe she'd rather visit with you when you're not having your hair cut, than just when you need a cut.

all i know to say is, tell her ur not comfortable driving a long distance and then paying. is she ur friend or stylist? doesn't seem right to be both. if she calls asking u to drive then pay, i'd say u just found someone on short notice that was willing to do it. no point in telling her they would do it for free.

Just tell her that with the price of fuel and then the price to have her do your hair, that you need to just have it done closer to home.

If you want her to continue cutting your hair, PAY HER.

Don't expect friends to do it for free.
