Schedule an appointment with your boss for some time during the day. Have a typed letter of resignation ready to give him/her. Thank your boss for the opportunities and experiences you have gained in his/her employment as they will help you in your future endeavors. Explain that you have an opportunity that you cannot pass upon. Remember that your new employer and other future employers will be able to call this job site for references. You want to make your boss understand that you are gracious for the employment and that your leaving is in no way a reflection of their management skills ( you don't want to say that exactly) Make sure you already have a new job lined up as some bosses will terminate you immediately without giving you the two weeks.

Get it over with. Don't wait until the end of the day to hit them with the news. Just be straightforward have written notice in hand when you tell them. It's great that your giving 2 weeks notice, than in itself makes a huge difference especially for small company. Just remember to always leave on good terms. You don't have to be specific about the reason why or give them some long explanation, short and simple.

No not at the begining but near the end of the day, you don't want to go through the whole day after delivering the news. Give them notice at the end and by the next day, if you have to go in then, they will have gotten over the shock and got more used to the idea.

Since it's a small company, let them know right away (the more notice the better so that they have time to replace you). Let them know you got another job (or whatever -- nothing negitive about your position) and if you enjoyed it/appreciate them thank them. Do it in private with whoever your boss is (you don't need to tell anyone else until it's closer to time to leave).

You have money in the bank then? Go into your bosses office and personally hand him your 2 week notice.
