In school, I was the overweight friend. I can only tell you what helped me. I had friends that were honest with me. If I was wearing something too tight they would tell me. They weren't mean about it,just honest. They also listened to me when I had a bad day with people teasing me. They just let me get it out and told me that no matter what people thought of me they were my friend and if i was happy the way i was then not to worry about it. If you say that and she says she's not happy then help her lose weight. Exercise with her, make sure she stays on her diet. But only do this stuff if you are truly friends with her. If your not and she finds out that could break her heart and the situation will only get worse.

Well, stick by her like you have been.
Life is so unfair...and its people like that, that ruin good people because of their insensitivity.
Listen to her, the next time it happens, and she voices her concerns or fears to you, see if you can make a suggestion very kindly. Find opportunities to make those suggestions, but allow her to feel they are her idea, don't force an opinion on her because that will just go over badly.
If nothing else, tell her you'd like to diet, and you need a diet buddy, and if she's interested in being yours? Sometimes you can lead them in the right direction under different disguises, and it works in their favor....;) Go that extra mile and ask her to walk with you everyday.....or to go swimming, or to the park? Get her active.
And I'm going to tell you something else, what you do for her today, will come back to you in kindness at another time. I believe in what goes around, comes around....just as it will to those that tease her. (I know this from experience)
As Pinky stated above: Honest and Brutal for Big fatty's....is not the way to go about it. That was one of the most ignorant answers I have seen today, she's one of them insensitive ones that I was talking about!

Point out to her that layering looks good on everybody, big or small. Hides figure flaws and is cool. Set a good example when you snack and take no when she doesn't want the last cookie or donut. Other than that being her friend and liking her at any size is the best & coolest thing you can do. She really appreciates that, especially when others are giving her a bad time.

take her shopping and help her pick out clothes that aren't so tight but make sure they still look good on her. Start watching what you eat when the two of you are together. Start walking. Just be with her. and say hey lets go for a walk. and try to get her not to drink pop. It's so bad !!

Its wonderful that you dont treat her this way and that you stay by her side... by doing this you are already helping her. She can only be helped if she wants to be helped you know? So if you really want to help her jump at any invitation she gives you to working out, instead of going and watching a movie go play at an arcade thats already more exercise, then take her to scenic walks, whatever you do dont make it seem like work... thanks for asking

Stand up to the people who are teasing her and tell them to mind their own business. It's up to your friend and her doctor whether she should lose weight.
