I recently watched Titanic in school

At the end of the movie, why in the hell does rose throw The Heart Of The Ocean off the back of the boat???

DO you think she was stupid for doing that?

I think Rose was letting go of the past, she told her story, and the necklace was probably the last physical tie to her former life.

It could also symbolize that her heart also lies in the ocean (with Jack)

My favorite theory, she's a senile old woman, who doesn't want her granddaughter to live the remainder of her years in comfort from the proceeds of that necklace, (bad care I think)

This is my favorite movie. Jack dies from hypothermia and Rose stays alive, a larger ship finds all of these people in the water and brings them to safety. When Rose is on the deck of the rescue ship the next morning, she is wearing her mean husbands coat remember he put it on her the night before and she finds the blue necklace. Her husband was also rescued and he calls for her on the rescue ship that morning and she hides so he doesnt see her. When the person who registers the survivors comes to rose, she says her name is Rose Dawson, using Jack's last name. So her husband never finds her, he ends up commiting suicide after the stockmarket crash of the late 1920's. Rose then grows old and has a family. While she's on the ship in her 80's and is sleeping she waked up and still has the blue necklace at this stage of her life. She gets out of be in the middle of the night and goes to the front of the ship and steps up like she and Jack did in the early time and throws the blue necklace over. She vows to never forget Jack.
