Are the duties similar to those in accounting, e.g. processing invoices?

Purchasing does not involve processing invoices...It deals more with being able to procure stock/parts/merchandise to make your business run...you need to be knowledgeable about the stock that you are purchasing, and be able to negotiate the best price and lead time for each item purchased. Purchasing does involve creating Purchase orders, but not the paying of the invoices.

A good purchasing agent should be able to get the best price and the fastest delivery time possible for any item that is being ordered.

Hi Wille,

There Will Not Be Any Invoicing And Accounts Maintenance In Purchase Department. But They Have To Maintain The Stock Position Of The Goods.

I work in accounting but we don't have a purchasing department. The staff for the various departments we have make their own purchases, then they recieve their invoices and turn them in to me to pay.
