Someone told me that with the newer Dell Computer keyboards you can clean them in your dishwasher as long as you let them dry out completely before using them again. If this isn't true then how would I clean sticky juice off of my keyboard? It's inside the keyboard making some of the keys stick.

Of course you can. You will have a clean keyboard that will be non-functional.

First off, stop eating steaks off your keyboard.

Dont wash it in the diswasher, aside from the hot water, if you use dishwashing powder, the caustic properties of it will almost certainly trash it. Tell your friends that told you to do it that you did it and it worked great! It would serve them right if they tried it themselves!

It all depends on the construction of your keyboard, you can lift the key-caps off some, others will have a little rubber mat underneath the keys (when you open the keyboard) etc. Be aware that handiling the bare circuit board of the keyboard can in some cases destroy it due to static discharge (but to be honest I've never had that happen myself).

At any rate, if you open up the keyboard it may be damaged, if you dont clean it out, it still may stop working so I'd say open it up and see if you can clean it, but be prepared to buy a new keyboard.

Use warm, clean water (no soap!!) or isopropl alcohol (in a ventilated room) and be sure to dry any excess water off before leaving it to dry thorughly before reassembly (say 24 hours drying)

The problem with using a dishwasher is the water is way to hot and might actually melt some contacts. You can go to support.dell.com for help or just use a lightly soaped damp rag & go over the keys. Remember to use a damp rag to rinse off the keys, then take the keys off and use a damp q-tip to carefully clean the inside of the keyboard. Then let the keyboard air dry over night.

Yep, it's true, but as long as you unscrew all of the screws at the bottom, and then take off the top of the keyboard (with the keys), and put it into the dishwasher. I have done this, and my Dell keyboard looks good as new!

Absolutely not, I've killed a keyboard with plain water. Though I realized that water is bad, I figured it would be safe if I use a hair dryer. Even idea is risky and ended up in failure. From that experiance, I decided to use alcohol and swabs. Alcohol may even work better than a damp cloth.

OK here it goes I once dropped my cell in water OK actually my boss threw me in a pool lol,and I had my cell on me what I did was bury it in rice, with a keyboard you might need a lot of rice but hey if it works go for it as it did with my cell.

Wipe it with a damp cloth. Try GENTLY removing keys and use cotton buds. Don't, I REPEAT DON'T, submerse in water.
