I doubt all the teams want to play in that tournament, so maybe if there was more incentive, like getting a spot into the NCAA, (like maybe playing a 8 or 9 seed) it would motivate the players more..what do you all think? Thanks.

i know there's probably not enough time though...but if there was, maybe it would be pretty cool.

Nah, we have enough teams in the NCAA Tournament as it is. I think the NIT is great for those teams that are in conferences who don't have a shot at a bid to have some post-season play. And trust me, if you're a team that was on the bubble that got shafted....you WANT to win the NIT to show the committee just how ignorant they were.

The NIT is really a joke. I know this because i am a michigan fan. We are in the NIT every single year and nobody cares about it. Tonight against Utah State, it was the lowest home attendance since M hired Tommy Amaker. I think they try to give incentive by having the semifinals and finals at the madison square garden, but there is not much interest otherwise. There is really nothing to do to give more incentive. You can tell the teams feel snubbed in the way that they come out and play in the NIT. I don't know what you mean by getting a spot in the NCAA, they go on at the same time?

It is true that the NIT is the ugly stepchild to the NCAA tourney. It does provide extra practice time for those teams up and coming. It could make you a better team for next year and make the NCAA. For teams like my favorite Kansas State, making any tourney is a definite step up. K-State last made the NCAA in 1996 and the NIT in 1999. I hope Huggins makes a big splash in the NIT and we ride the wave (and the #1 recruiting class) to a better '08.

hey i have to agree with you in a sense. the guys are getting
to play some pretty tough teams and i will watch. it's all based of the excitement of march. and i will tell you, there is no more motivation for any team than to get to the NCAA. that's what it is all about. GO TAR HEELS.
