Well if you are considering into making a planted tank, its not just the plants you have to worry about. Assuming you have a standard setup, you might have inadequate lighting. There is a rule of thumb that you need 2-3 watts per gallon for just low-light plants to thrive. Also, try hardy low-ligh plants like java moss, java ferns, and anubias. You can search for data on plants online if they are low-light plants or not.
From experience, i would suggest you going to your LFS when buying plants because there are too many problems with buying plants online. On ebay, there are aquarium plant sellers that would ship you poor or even a different plant than what was shown on the picture (i bought a few from aquadise and clearly they are not the same as what is pictured). At least when buying it in person, you dont have to worry about dead or poor quality on arrival, dont have to worry about shipping costs, and can get advice from the store owner. Hope this helps.

I've attached 3 links below, the first one to live aquaria where you can purchase plants safely. The 2nd and 3rd are for information you may need on the set up and care for a planted aquarium. Also take a look at the Aqua Hobby tank photos, there are tons on there, and they will help with any set up ideas you might need.
Have Fun!

If you want a nice looking tank do the following
1-Sand instead of gravel
2-peace lilly plants
3-Neon Tettras
4-Large decoritive rocks.
If you want a good place to find these kind of decorations, go around your local fish stores (not petco or petsmart as they will screw you over and have low quality stuff that is expensive)

When looking for Fish stores make sure you find ASIAN WORKERS AND OWNERS as they know the most about fish I AM NOT BEING RACIST THIS IS A TRUE FACT. In my 13 years of aquarium keeping i have been to hundreds of Fish stores. The fish stores not owned by asians smelled bad and had sick fish in low quality conditios.

you've got to be kidding with the asian fish store owner thing. i live in the international district in seattle and all the fish stores have asian owners, but half of those stores will sell you fish with ick...explain that one.

i've gotten several recommendations for this e-bay store, but i don't have any personal experience with them. also, check online for any local aquarium societies in your area - they're pretty easy to find with a little time on google - and some of them will have local people who give away their extra growth. they'd also most likely have a listing of the best stores in your area for plants.

good luck! i love my plants. just make sure you have the right environment for them and fish that won't mess with them and they'll grow like crazy.
