I named 3 of my children with middle names of people I cared about or who had a positive influence in my life. Do many people do this anymore or just go with what sounds good with first name? My 4th child's middle name was a name my mother almost named me

Yes, there are still some people out there that uphold their traditions, and values! Yea! My daughter's middle name is the same as mine, and my son's middle name is the same as his father's. Now with my son's I also added one more middle name, which is "Rey" meaning King in Spanish for our Lord.
It is nice to see names passed down generation to generation. My grandmother's first name was passed down three generations (to mom, then my sister). When all three are in a room together and you call out their name, they all turn! Lots of fun. Traditions show respect and care for our families. We still keep a lot of them! Smiles!

My son's middle name is James (my son's middle name and my father in law's first name.) If we have another boy his middle name will be Alexander after my great grandfather. I would use names from the women in my family for a girl's name but I don't like any of the family names.

I think it's a great tradition to name your kids after people who have impacted your life. In the Jewish faith, kids' first names are the "family names," often using the first letter as a guide for name choice. For example, my name is Beth and I was named after my mother's grandpa Benjamin. The middle names for Jewish kids are then the unique names. I think it's generally a Christian tradition to have the middle name be the family name.
Anyway, I really like that tradition, because it gives the child a sense of history and family pride.

My mother and father really had to find a name that sounded good because they had a name picked out for a boy. The doctors tought i was going to be a boy, but on June 1st, so many years ago, i was a girl...by my mother was going to name me something that was not in the family and that is what my father also wanted. But as for me, my 1st son's name will be "Charles" after my grandfather. I find that it is important to name them with powerful names and also of someone that you look to ask a hero!

I think thats a great idea. My middle name was named after my grandma's and great grandma's middle name. Lots of people still do it because it shows your family. My whole family starts with j. my sisters middle name is the same as my mom's. its this huge chain, and everyone thinks that its so cool! But, if the middle name that you are thinking of sounds good to you but isnt significant, then go with it!

Well, my parents named me after a great grandmother. I think it's nice to have a middle name that is of someone you care about. At first I didn't like middle name, Ruth. It's an older name, but I became accustomed to it. It goes good togther "Caitlin Ruth". So, I don't think you need to worry about the name matching or sounding good. Actually, most people don't even use it that much anymore.

I think that is a wonderful idea. I got my middle name from my mother's best friend. Just always make sure the special middle name flows nicely with the first name!

My 1st, a girl, was middle named for my aunt, who died just before my baby was born.
My 2nd, a boy, was middle named with a name that seemed to go well with his first name.
My own middle name is absolutely awful! Don't EVER middle name your baby the name of the state the child was born in!

This is very common where I am from. It is a nice tribute to those you love without the possible embarassment of an unusal first name. I like using family names, last, parents middle, or especially when relatives have "unique" names.

I think it is great that you named your kids after people you admire, sometimes that doesn't work. 2 of my kids middle names are saint names and the third is just because I liked it with his first name. As long as you like it.
