Comedy
If you like some Chinese comedy film , Stephen Chow's film is a good choice for you.Jim Carey's films also are not bad.

Forever classic - Godfather is the best choice , exclude the Godfather III.My favorite director - Quentin Tarantino's film also not bad ,Pulp Fiction , Reservoir Dogs..

Horror
-Psycho
-The Shining
-The Exorcist
-Aliens
-The Silence of The Lamb
-Jaws
Hehe,there are too many choices...

Sci-Fi
The six episodes of Star Wars also are superb , you will enjoy the galaxy. The Matrix Trilogy also is a good choice.

War
The mini series , Band of Brothers(HBO Production) is a best War film.Saving Private Ryan , Schindler‘s List , Full Metal Jacket , Black Hawk Down , Apocalypse Now...Letters From Iwo Jima is a new & good film also.

These are what I recommend , you can pick them yourself.

Rent '11:14'. A very good movie starring Hillary Swank. Very interesting story and concept about all of these things that happent to different sets of ppl at the same time. They all happen to be intertwined in some way. It's one of the rare 'B-Movies' I always recommend to friends.

If you can't get that one, 'Hard Candy' is always good, about a teen and a pedophile who meet ovr the internet. Very interesting twist!

If you want laugh-out-loud-funny, rent 'Beerfest'-hilarious!!!!
