I am cramping so bad, I have sharp pains in my stomach, and I have pain in my lower back! I can't even lay down, I have to keep my waist bent or the pain gets more intense. When will this start to fade?

I had my IUD in for one year and the pain was there almost all the time. I started having such sever pain I had it removed. Every month when I got my period I felt like I was in labor. I also had very little sex drive because of the terrible dryness. I began to have back spasms that left me unable to move for 10 to 20 minutes. It also took a toll on my skin. I'm not sure why but. Now that it's gone my skin is back to normal. I should also tell you. Having it removed was no day at the park. After my first checkup, after having it inserted, my doctor couldn't find the string. So when I had it removed he had to use some huge funky looking instruments to get it out. Very unpleasant ! I'm not trying to scare you I just wanted to give you a bit of insight.

The pain should subside by in the morning. If it does not, girl you need to get to the emergency room. There is a possibility that your uterus was perforated during the insertion of the IUD, meaning that it was placed too far into your uterus and exited through the back side of your uterus. I am an OR nurse and have seen this many times. I also have an IUD myself & my pain was gone by the morning. Your periods are going to be rough though. really bad cramping & heavy bleeding. But I guess that beats having to take a pill everyday.

It takes, well for me, about a week or so, and according to my gyn that's normal. It was intense for me also, more than any period I'd ever had! The good thing for me was now my periods last only 3-4 days and it's spotting only, no heavy flows and no cramping. If you get out of your mind severe pain or a lot of bleeding or a fever then call your gyn right away! Other than that, take advil, elevate your legs with pillows while lying down and 'try' to relax until it passes which shouldn't be too long.

Hope you feel well soon!

I have 2 older sisters and both have had IUD's and they always say the first day it is done that they are in much pain but then the next day they will be totally fine like nothing is wrong. So without experience, Im guessing maybe by tomorrow, you will be fine since thats what I know. Well goodluck and hope the pain goes away.

I did not think that they recommended the IUD much anymore. Often times not only are they painful but they can intensify your monthly cramping as well. Sometimes they are an option for women who for health reasons are advised not to use birth control pills or implants, but I would hope that you are comfortable enough with your OGBYN to discuss this with them in some depth... good luck.

I had one put in two months ago, and I didn't have any
cramping. I think you should phone your doctor.
Also with IUD's incase you don't know, you can have
cramping for eight months.
