What the hell is a degu?

I'm sure it's possible.
Call a zoo. They will know what permits are needed for exotic animals.
Animal control will know who you should contact.
Call a Degu breeder. Even if it's legal where they are, they may know how to get permits
Expect to pay quite a bit.

Permits can not be purchased, they are appled for and California is not a good place to try to get exotic type animals. Sacramento decided many years ago that some "critters" were not welcome into the state, Ferrets, Gerbils and many other interesting animals have been listed as not wanted.. When Sacramento decided what KIND of animal and HOW MANY were permitted, I moved from the state and took my income, potential income and taxable dollars with me.

That's a real shame that they're banned in Cali, they are such brilliant pets and have so many better qualities than most small pets.

BTW, for those who don't know what a Degu is, see:

No, They are illegal and unfortunately, you cannot get a permit to make an exception either.
