It gets erased when you do a reinstallation. If you want to erase it without installing anything on it, then you have to first create a bootable disk for that purpose

You mean to say format it. i.e. remove all data completely.
You can do this in two ways..
If you have the bootable windows xp setup cd, you can use the windows setup to format the drive. But make sure you dont format the drive your windows is setup on. If you do that, you cant use ur pc
The other way, assuming you have windows xp already installed is to goto My Computer,
Right click on the drive which you want to format and then click format. Follow the simple on screen instructions to format your drive
hope it helped

just format it if the drive is not C and not the installation drive
If the drive is C and you are installed windows in another drive, deleting some files in C drive will cause windows does not boot up.
If u want to erase ur windows installed drive, start a new fresh installation using CD and selectr new installation and format the drive during the installation

If you put in your restore disks,
windows will replace itself back
to original factory settings.
You will lose all your updates,
but it will also erase current data
in the process.
