Money talks. Slip a manager a $100 bill, and he/she will make an exception. I've seen it at work at two different restaurants that I have worked.

waits at a resturant are a necessary thing. even when people call ahead on a week day they might still have to wait if it suddenly became a busy night. the thing is the resturant loses monney if a table sits empty. the average turn over on a table is 45 mintues so there for if you have an empty table in a resturant and your holding it for someone that is coming in an hour or something your making someone wait that shouldnt be and they would probly complian if they saw the empty table. there is no garuntee that the call ahead will come in. when people call ahead we usually put them on the top of the wait list when they get there. the only tables we will hold are for big tops 6 and over. the best advise i can give you about avoiding a wait is to go early.

Okay. Here's what you do. Call up the restaurant, and say that you need to reserve a table for at least four people -- in a private setting-- for whatever local celebrity is popular at the moment. It could even be the mayor of your city. Show up to claim the table and then wait for thirty minutes and pretend the celebrity is calling you to say they got held up and then enjoy your meal. I've done this countless times in Chicago and it works. Just make sure you dress to impress.

Not all places have reservations, but they may have call ahead seating, you can call an hour before you go, so when you get there you will be the next party sat. Everyone has to wait at some point, your no different than anyone else.

I'm afraid that if you don't have to wait, then it probably isn't a very good restaurant!
