I have a draft this weekend and pitching is by team instead of individual. Thanks in advance!

Two main categories to take in play in pitching staffs are ERA and WHIP, usually if these are low then the wins and losses fall in to place (but that is also dependent on the teams offense). Here are the top 5 teams last year in ERA and WHIP.

ERA-

Tigers-3.84
Padres-3.87
Twins-3.95
Angels-4.04
Astros-4.08

WHIP

Padres-1.27
Twins-1.28
Angels-1.29
Astros-1.30
Tigers-1.32

No suprise it is the same 5 teams. However, taking into consideration changes in rotation etc I think 2 teams should be taken off the list. First, the Twins who have Santana, but without the success that Liriano had last year and without Brad Radke this staff will not be the same as last year. Second, the Astros lost Pettite and Clemens hasn't said if he is playing this year or not. So those are the two teams I would take off the list. The Angels are pretty much the same staff as last year and the same can be said for the Tigers. The Padres should be even better with a bounce back season by Peavy, another solid year by Chris Young and the addition of Greg Maddux.

I would rank them in the following order.

1. San Diego Padres
2. Detroit Tigers
3. Los Angeles Angels

For Fantasy purposes only, I'm going with Tigers, Yankees, and Mets.
Tigers have a plus starting rotation and Zumaya will probably take the closing job away from Jones by midseason. Even still, for whatever reason, Jones can still save the games.
Yankees will throw money to get whoever at midseason, plus they'll end up with Clemens. Rivera closing. Nothing too wrong here.
Mets because I have to put in some NL team since their average ERA is almost a point less than AL teams. (Remember this on draft day for your league.) Pedro's coming back this season might make this pick great or not so much. Wagner's closing.
I would put the BoSox and Marlins in there, because of their starting rotation, but their bullpen is a mess.

Dont listen to the guy above me who said the mets. They're probably in the 3 worst pitching staffs.
