I heard that the number of AP classes and the overall strength of your curriculum are the most important deciding factors. I wanted to know if thats true. I applied to UC Berkeley. I go to an independant study school in a disadvantaged district 15 mins from Berkeley. I petitioned and fought for AP classes in my Junior year and now we have AP's at my school ( due to my efforts). I'm taking 2 now. I have taken 3 semesters of college spanish and 1 semester college chem ( all transferable) at a comm college. I've completed many of my grad requirements at the same community college. I got an 1840 SAT 650 SATII Lit 640 SATII Chem and have played select soccer for 10yrs and danced for 6. I have been an intern at a wildife museum(i now work there as a supervisor/animal keeper) and at the marine science institute . I have also worked as a chem tutor. Do I still have a good chance of getting in?

My GPA unweighted is a 3.9 the highest math I will have completed upon graduation is pre-calc so I will be ready to take calculus when i go to college. I have only 4 college transfereable courses and if I pass my AP tests I will have 6

If you hit these points in your essay I'm sure you'll do fine. Depends also on your GPA, but you should have an EXCELLENT chance. Good luck.

BS Nuclear Engineering, UC Berkeley, 1990.

I highly doubt you will become a National Merit Scholar. Other than that, you will have a pretty good chance of making it. It will depend on personal statements and your second semester junior year grades. Also, don't think that Cal Berkeley is very inexpensive. For California residents, it is rather inexpensive. For out of state students, it is really high. Around the same you would pay for an Ivy league. The only reason I would discourage you from going to Berkeley is the out of state tuition you would have to pay. Don't pay any attention @ Hollow Sunsets above. He is a complete liar. Someone with those stats wouldn't be on yahoo answers.

you have an excellent chance, especially since your the one that brought aps to your district, be sure to mention that to them, another huge deciding factor is your demonstration of leadership skills, and you gpa, and the strength of your course work, not necessarily ap classes, but like if you took hard classes like calc/stats instead of gym and art, you know gimme an a classes like i know a girl who took, drama, art, and gym (she wanted to be a chem major) and didn't get in even though she had 4.0 but i had a 3.8 and did, cause i took harder courses
