When applying for a job which is better to do,apply online-or apply in person?

I see that with some jobs you can apply on-line and some others you can't.If you have a job that you can either apply on-line or apply in person,Which is the best way of applying?

Do both. Some companies insist on only applying online, but it doesn't hurt to actually go in and see the Manager or Personnel Department. It shows initiative and that you are keen. It also assists you to touch base with the company, snoop around and make sure that you really want to be a part of that environment.

I've been working in Human Resources for 10 years now and Honestly, the best answer would be dependent on the type of job you are applying for. If you are looking for something that involes close customer contact such as retail sales, in person is probably the best route. But for most professional positions, no matter what company, online or mail is the way to apply. If you stopped by most HR departments without an appt, you would only be speaking with a recptionist who would take your resume and tell you call or apply online. Its just not usually acceptable to show up to a higher level position unnanounced and most likely will be a waste of your time.

If I was in charge of hiring, I would be more impressed with someone that applied in person. However, I have worked for companies before that hired upper management people over the phone, without ever meeting them in person. They were from out of state, and worked for another company at the time.

I'm from the old school, I say in person. They get a chance to see you and talk alittle to you personally. To me, it's the lazy way of getting a job on the computer. But maybe then, it could be that I just can't catch up with the times of today. I still think in person is way better.

I recommend completing online resumes. I've gotten 3 job offers in a month just by having a resume on Monster.com. I recently found several more great sites to use and listed them below.

The best advice I can give for online resumes is to ensure you use spellcheck and search other employer postings to try to obtain keywords to use in your resume. Most online resumes are first scanned by a computer (scan tron) for keywords that employers are looking for. If your resume contains certain keywords related to your field, it is less likely to get cut from the stack.

Of course, networking is usually the best way to get a job. You can also network online, with some of the sites I listed below. The web is becoming quite a useful resource.

same result wheather u apply on line or in person or depend on the company. its better to apply on line cuz if they like u, they will call u so u dont waste ur time going there. u can apply for more jobs on line and have a better chances of getting a job.

In person! If they refer you to an online application then fill that out but follow up in person or on the phone with the manager or with the human resources department. In your follow up tell them that you are still interested in the position and ask if you they can set a time to meet with you for an interview.

I applied online and i thought it would take longer...but they called me the next 2 days. And it was alot easier to look up your reference numbers, previous employers addresses/numbers, and anything they asked that you didnt know off the top of your head. Sitting at home putting in your application is so much easier and for your convience if you cant make it during their business hours. Good Luck

Applying in person is always better... when you drop off your application or resume make sure to present yourself in a proper manner... nice clothes, hair, etc... the employer gets a chance to see you, meet you and often if they like you, they will make note of it on your application and you will get an interview.
