Hi!!!
Society says is wrong!!!!! But reality is another, if you really feel like that about him, confront him and tell him.
Your ex probably is doing all fine by himself, I see no wrong doing telling this guy, your true feelings towards him.
Talk to him, ONLY if you are absolutely sure and if you think he may accept to give this relationship a try.
Remember that this is a step and a risk you are taking, be sure first about him, study the situation before taking the risk!!!!

I think that you should go for it. What can your ex boyfriend do about it? He can't control his friends life. He can't control your life either. If you like a guy, it shouldn't matter who he hangs out with!!! Go for it!!!!
