i have a 97 Z71 and im about to put on a new exhuast. im going to get a true dual exhaust, which comes with 2 40 series flowmasters. i told them i wanted to dump them before the rear axle. all of this would cost me 175 bucks. is this a good price for the exhaust and how loud will my truck be with the new exhuast. will it throw any codes around. thanx

That sounds pretty cheap by the time you consider what a series 40 costs. But make sure you are actually getting Flow master mufflers. The patent ran out and now there are a lot of mufflers out there that look like Flow master but they are knockoffs. A true Flow master has Flow master embossed into the shell.

Generally, the lengthier the exhaust pipes the quieter the sound but this also has a lot to do with the types fo mufflers. Also, remember that

a)"Series 40" Flowmaster mufflers are two chamber

b) that there are three kinds of Series 40 mufflers...so know what you're getting.

c) because this is probably one of Flowmasters' loudest muffler you might be in for a surprise as to how loud your truck is especially after you've shortened the exhaust. What's the point if it's a hassle to drive?

Finally, although I know guys that run them, I never liked the "tin can" sound of a Flowmaster. I've had much better results with a bigger diameter but shorter cheapo mufflers. Hey, if you're into Flowmaster and you've heard them on other people's cars and you like how they sound then more power to ya! Just make sure you look into it before you drop the bucks.

This is a great price for the exhaust that you are getting. I also live in the state of Texas and paid almost over twice as much for my exhaust. It will not mess up your emission on your car. You will still be able to pass. The sound will be monsterous and you will be heard coming down the street.

Excellent price for the exhaust in any State...but be carefull
not to get yourself a big fat ticket for violating emission laws
depending on which state you live in...for instance in Calif. you
would be buying a big headache for modifying your exhaust..

If the exhaust has a place for the o2 sensor to be installed it should be fine.

it sounds like a good price and as long as you dont mess with your cats and o2 sensors you shouldnt have any code problems its going to be a good deep v8 sound and you should be able to be heard coming from a block away

Not outrageous, but insist on alumized exhaust tubing.
