track a email & call the person it was sent to? I emailed somebody that is out of school & they tracked it & called his office. Is that an invasion of privacy? The email was about a superbowl party by the way. Someone help please. Answers within the next hour or so would be great. Thanks.

It depends on weather they have any doco saying that by using their system you accept that they are allowed to view the emails.

If they do have something saying that then yes, it is perfectly legal...

Otherwise no, it is an invasion of privacy

not at all. schools and workplaces own the computers, the networks, and the internet connections you're using.

they can legally watch, record, or log ANYTHING that happens on those systems if they choose to. and they often do.

it sounds like someone in the computer department at the school probably has too much time on their hands, but they're not technically doing anything wrong by taking information passing through their own computers/networks.

depending on who does it and why, it can (sometimes) get a person in a computer department sacked if they abuse their power for no other reason than they like being nosey - if they're reported to a higher staff member who takes it seriously.

if you want privacy, use a computer at home.

Did you by any chance use a school computer to send the Email? If you did, the school has every right to trace any Email sent.

No, it's not illegal. They are protecting your privacy and making sure that you aren't getting any freaky stalkers. Imagine if you were five and sent that off not knowing, and he followed you and the school just sat back and watched.

It is not illegal if you used the schools internet system, they do have the right to monitor their own system. That means anything that comes into the system as well.

No, it's the schools computer system and they have the right to look in to what you're doing to keep you safe.
