3x – 2y = 12
x-intercept: y = 0
3x = 12
x = 4 so (4,0)
y-intercept: x = 0
-2y = 12
y = -6 so (0, -6)

y - 3 = 2 ( x + 7)
y - 3 = 2x + 14
y = 2x + 17
slope m = (yb - ya)/(xb - xa)
if (xa, ya) = (1, 19)
and (xb, yb) = (2, 21)
m = (21 -19)/(2 - 1) = 2/1 = 2; m = 2

3x + y = 12
x-intercept: y = 0
3x = 12
x = 4 so (4,0)
y-intercept: x = 0
y = 12 so (0, 12)

In order to find the slope of any equation you have to have the equation in slope intercept form. The equation for slope - intercept form is y = mx + b. In your case, half the work has already beemn done for you. All you have to do now is solve the equation for y. So :

y - 3 = 2(x + 7)
y - 3 = 2x + 14
y = 2x + 17

Your slope will be 2. Remember that whenever you put an equation in slope intercept form, the number in front of the x will always be your slope.

As for your next two questions they are also very simple to solve. Whenever you have to solve for the x - intercept always remember that you have to set y = 0 and whenever you solve for the y intercept you always set x = 0. So:

For your first equation lets solve for the x intercept first.

X -Intercept ( set Y = 0):

3x - 2y = 12
-2y = 12 - 3x
y = (12 - 3x) / -2
y= -6 + (3/2)x
-6 + (3/2)x = 0 (because you are setting y = 0)
(3/2)x = 6
x = 6/(3/2)----> which is the same as 6 times (2/3)
x = 4 , Your x intercept is 4.

For your Y intercept set x = 0
3(0) - 2y = 12
0 - 2y = 12
-2y = 12
y = 12/ -2
y = -6 , Your Y intercept is negative 6

For your next problem we do the same.
X - Intercept ( set y= 0)

3x + y = 12
y = 12 - 3x
12 - 3x = 0
-3x = -12
x = -12/-3
x = 4 , This is your x intercept.

For your Y Intercept we set x= 0
3x + y = 12
3(0) + y = 12
y = 12 , is your y intercept.

1) For x- and y- intercepts, just remember that these intercepts are points at which the line crosses the graph. Basically, substitution is required for this.

So, "substitute" 0 for y

3x - 2y = 12
3x - 2(0) = 12
3x - 0 = 12
divide each side by 3 to find x

x = 4

First intercept is (4,0)

Now, do the same to find y. ("substitute" x with 0)

3x - 2y = 12
3(0) - 2y = 12
0 - 2y = 12
Divide each side by -2
y = -6

Second intercept is (0,-6)

2) For slope, remember the formula y=mx+b.

So, multiply it out (distribute).

y - 3 = 2 ( x + 7)
y - 3 = 2x + 14
y = 2x + 17

SLOPE = M, which in this case is 2.

3) Same thing here as #1. Just substitute 0 for both X and Y, and you will get the intercepts.

3x + y = 12
3(0) + y = 12
y=12

First intercept is (0,12)

3x + y = 12
3x + (0) = 12
3x = 12
divide each side by 3
x= 4

Second intercept is ( 4,0)

Good luck! Hope this helped.

1. for x, divide 12 by 4. for y, divide 12 by -2
2. dist. y-3= 2x+14
subt. 14. y-17=2x
y=2x+17
since the formula is y=mx+b, the slope is 2
3. same as 1

a. x-intercept: 4 y-intercept: 6

b. y - 3 = 2x + 14
y = 2x + 14 + 3
y = 2x + 17
slope = 2

c. x-intercept: 4 y-intercept: 12
