im NOT a feminist. but i dont beleive in gender roles and i DO beleive in equality. however i think that its sad that some women need to join the hypocritical double standard movement of feminism in order to feel as if they are strong. who cares what gender you are!! dont label yourself. stick to what you beleive and dont let feminism and male chauvonism bring you down. i beleive that women are not property of a man, and they shouldnt let themselves be property of feminism either. women should be proud to be women not angry there not men

Most people are afraid of or hate the word "feminism." This is because the media puts such a terrible face on feminists. They paint us to be unshaven, boorish, manly lesbians that hate men. This is not the case at all.

Feminism is simply the belief that women should be equal to men. That's not saying that men and women are the same. Of course we're not. Our anatomy is different; that's the way it is. However, that doesn't mean that women are less.

Feminist believe that women should have the right to choose what they want to do with their lives, be it a career woman, housewife, mother, or any combination. Women can do any job a man can, and we should get equal pay for it. Did you know that women, on average, make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes doing the exact same job?

There are also social restraints on women that are not fair. If a man is agressive or sexually active, he's called tough and a stud. If a woman is agressive and sexually active, she's called a ***** and a s!ut. It's just not fair.

Feminists aren't trying to say that women deserve more rights than men. We're saying we deserve the same rights and the same respect. I hope I've answered your question. If you are still curious, check out the following link:

Women who are feminist believe that women should be given the choice. If they want to stay home and raise their children that is wonderful but they should also be given some compensation from the government for doing this. Feminism believes in equality so if a man chose to do the same he could be paid something as well. Equality in everything means feminist are against discrimination due to gender, age, religion, ability, culture, sexual orientation. Eco feminist recognizes the need to conserve the natural resources of the worlds against the constant battering that industry causes and the fact that so many of our natural resources are being destroyed because of greed.
Feminists do not hate men they believe that women should be given equal opportunities. They are against the way that media portrays women unrealistically to the point that numerous women and a growing number of young girls some as young as eight are being treated for anorexia and bulimia. Vast number of women are being killed by their spouses every year and their is human trafficking taking place. Feminism is about changing these issues and finding viable solutions to alleviate poverty.

Women have every right that men do plus a few that are denied to men with the possible exception of selective service registration and being ordered into military combat. They have at least equality, if not superiority, in every field and endeavor thanks to hiring quotas (affirmative action).
Feminism, and not just radical feminism, ALL feminism is about superiority and has been for over 30 years.
Feminists point out that fewer than 50% of all CEOs, politicians (as if that were a worthy goal), managers, etc., are women. What they fail to point out is that fewer than 50% of women are employed for wages at all and a large number of them choose part-time employment. Women can't be elected if they don't run. Those who are not elected are apparently not elected by women since more women vote than men.
Women have the choice to work or stay home and either way, with or without their husband's approval. If he doesn't like it, she can divorce him and take at least 1/2 of everything they own (usually more) including the children and up to 25% of his income for up to two decades.
Women vote, work, stay home, apply for any and every job, are legally mandated to receive pay equal to any other worker that is equally qualified, educated and tenured. Overall, women overwhelmingly 'win' in divorce and custody situations.
Women can join the military and there are women generals.
Women can be firefighters, police and parole officers, prison guards, bank managers, mechanics, garbage collectors, etc. Oddly, feminists seem to never complain about the lack of women in dirty or dangerous jobs like garbage or sewer workers, cement finishers, roofers, roughneck, etc., even though these fields are obviously understaffed by women.
Feminism is, by definition, sexism. In this day and age it is not about "rights" but special privileges and is based on lies and propaganda.

I don't know if this counts as "extreme feminism" but I think that women are just as good as men. I think women should be able to have careers if they want (and make as much as men, not this $0.77 to every dollar a man makes b.s.) I also think that if a woman chooses to stay home to take care of the home and kids, that's cool too. And, and men can be househusbands if they feel like it. I just don't see why not.

Feminism is a collection of social theories and political activism concerned with creating the same/similiar opportunities for women that men have in education, employment, worker pay, politics, plus the right to reproductive choices, safety from violence, and rights to maternity leave.

Feminists also wanted to provide choices for men and women in their relationships, so work or childcare or housecare was not based on gender alone.

What is extreme about that?

Its about choices. Before the women's rights movement ( we are going back over 100 years now), a woman was the property of her husband or, if unmarried, her father. If she was employed, her wages were handed over to the man who owned her. She was not allowed to attend college - all colleges were for men only. In some social circles, she wore a set of whalebones over her torso, cinched in at the waist, which prevented her from eating too much or breathing too deeply (a corset). In those same social circles, and many others, her husband was chosen by her parents, often a man much older than herself, and having nothing in common with her. She was not permitted to refuse to marry the man chosen for her. She was also not permitted to deny that man children, whether SHE wanted to bear them or not was inconsequential.

Today, I am glad to have the right to obtain education, choose my own life partner, choose whether I want to have children, how many, and when, and pursue a career of my own choosing.

These are the basics of feminism, the ideas I embrace as a moderate feminist.

My occupational CHOICE happens to be stay at home mother of 3.

good question. we are now into the millenium and most women have the CHOICE to have a career, stay home with kids or both. I am a realist and an equalitist. I believe in equal rights regardless of gender. However, my personal, unbiased choice would be to stay home with the kidz `til they went to school and try to find a job with the same hrs. @ first then full time when they have a routine. Just my own personal choice. Thanx for the question.

Feminism, by definition is really just the quest for equal choices. Not all of us want, or are even cut out for the family life. Choice is a beautiful thing. We now get to vote, own land, and run for office.

There was a time when our only choices were, mother, barmaid, librarian, teacher, or prostitute.

There is a t-shirt that reads: "Feminism is the radical notion that women are people." I agree. feminism is the fundamental right to make your own decisions about your life, and not be consigned to forever be the property of someone else (a man). It's not about hating men. It never was.

I definitely think women should be able to choose whatever future they want for their lives.

Women should be able to have careers. No doubt.

At the same time, women who choose to stay at home shouldn't be disrespected for their choice.
