so far, the main character woke up and found that no one is there, and no bodies. he tries to find his gf, on the way, he finds a squirrel, names the squirrel pete, finds people, befriends the people, finds out his parents might be eaten by canniballs and goes with his best friend to find his parents. They are okay.
That's just the main details...
I want to answer the question of what happened to mostly everybody. I want the squirrel to be important. I was thinking about something to do with aliens, but I'm open to suggestions. it's for my ninth grade english class so keep it pg rated. Creative answers are best.
Thank you.

the message from the aliens says taht the earth will be destroyed cause of canibalism, so he need to leave it
he takes all he loves to the gigant tree on which the squirell lives - this is the way he can transport them to the new place - the nuts planet :))

Hmmm. What if Pete the squirrel is actually the mastermind behind everything? He could be an evil squirrel... maybe he is trying to get even with humans because there was once a human who was cruel to him? Chopped down the tree where he lived? Stole his supply of nuts? Chased him? So, Pete decides, he is going to get back at humans. And those people the main character befriends could in reality be the squirrel's hypnotized hangmen..... Lol, just a thought. You could make the squirrel an Alien and it could work with this ending also.

Haha, good luck! Hope this idea helped.

The girlfriend and half of the town's people are missing because they've been turned into squirrels by Pete who after many years of experimenting has developed hypo-nuts which when eaten daily by humans turns them and keeps them in squirrel form. These mutants are under the control of Pete who has long dreamed of a squirrel world. Have the boyfriend while out looking for his g/f stumble upon Pete's secret lab located in a cave where he's busy turning more humans into squirrels. The way the story ends is when the boyfriend begins to destroy Pete's frankenstein lab (and those special nuts) and his girlfriend tries to stop him (after all her loyalty is now with the squirrels). All of a sudden the cave begins to fall down around them and the boyfriend barely escapes alive while saving his girl-squirrel. The cave-in destroys Pete, his secret formulas and all the hypo-nuts. Without the nuts around to keep the humans in squirrel form they begin to revert back into humans and all are saved and the b/f is a hero.

The squirrel turns out to be an alien who uses mind control to make people act in strange ways so he can report what they do back to his home planet, which by a strange coincidence is named Pete. His favorite mind control trick is to make people believe they cant see each other and thus come to the conclusion they have been eaten by cannibals.

Pete the squirrel not the planet, had hoped that his disguise of being a small rodent would make humans unaware of his unearthly origins, but his bad habit of whistling the opening bars of the Rite of Spring gave h8him away.

How about, the squirrel is a guide to help all the good people on earth find some kind of safe haven until the aliens are dealt with...or to gather them all together so they can be taken to a habitable planet by the good ets because the bad ets have gained control over the earth?

Um.. I'm an 8th grader so I'll try my best..

my opinion of the story (summary)
The main character (which I'll name Bob) and his posse finds his parents in a cave. Suddenly, Bob and his parents are confronted by a humongous cerulean space monster. The family scatters to a corner. (now there's two parts to chose; if Bob's stupid or smart)

If he's stupid, then... Bob comes out of the corner to fight the monster. But luckily, thanks to Pete, the space Monster was successfully completed. and Bob, his family, friends and Pete escape the cave.
If he's smart, then... Bob climbs up a wall (more like a cliff actually). Then on top, he beats down the monster. Randomly, Pete finds Bob and his family and they get out of the cave.

Connecting both ways; As they escape they find Bob's girlfriend dead. Sobbing only briefly taking his tragic loss. he was definite that Pete did this. And then he gets Pete as well as his friends and parents.
End..?

How about all the people have been turned into squirrels, and are living in the forest and working for the greedy evil squirrel king, gathering acorns for him

The squirrel symbolizes somebody he knows (and it's all a dream) - but you haven't mentioned- until the end- where you wrap it all up.

This could be a person who passed thru his life at a small moment- but made a huge impact on him "finding himself".
Or it could be someone very important that he is remembering in his dream.

Good luck with your writing. It's a great hobby.

W. T. F.

I'm sorry to say it, but so far that story sounds like complete chaos. About the only way to redeem it at this point is to have at least one of the following:
- An alien invasion.
- Giant mechs.
- Lost undersea civilizations.
- Portals from Hell.
That will basically drown out everything you've written so far with its coolness and make the story actually exciting and good.

And yes, I'm being a little sarcastic.
