It's not so much the point that you get, it's the fact that make it to overtime and suddenly there are three points awarded TOTAL instead of 2. Insane -- no other sport does this. Bob, if it makes you feel better this irks me waaaaaaaay more than the fighting!!!!!! The EXTRA point is very unfair to the teams that have done their job in REGULATION, only to see an extra point available to TWO teams that may be chasing them in the standings!!!!!!!
If the NHL has to keep tinkering with things like this I wish it would at LEAST award 3 points to a team winning in regulation.

I still don't see WHY you want to give a point for a Shootout loss BUT not for an OT loss. Also teams like the Pens? Look at the NHL Standings, their 10 in OT isn't that much more then most of the East actually pretty much pace for the League. Yeah it sounds like a lot but I just checked the standings. Personally I'm still for 2 for a win and 1 for a tie like the olden days. Can't win then tough.

While I agree it's not great that a team gets a point for a loss in an overtime situation, I agree that they get it for a shootout loss. I never had a problem with the tie in hockey. For a team to end up with 0 points for losing in a shootout, which is only a sales gimmick by a moronic president of league operations (never was a called commisioner before Bettman came along) is terrible. To put the points on the shoulders of 3 guys and the goalie, stupid.

It's frustrating to have every Penguins game end in a shootout...sometimes my heart can't take it. BUT...it seems to be working for the Pens. Christensen and Crosby are amazing in the shootout. Malkin was replaced tonight by Jarkko Ruutu (which was a nice surprise, although unsuccessful).
I would like to see some 2-3 goal leads to win it in regulation. I think it's something that the Pens need to pay attention to and work on. Not to mention the reg. wins will allow for more points and a lessening in the points between us and Ottawa and NJ.
But hey, I ain't complaining about all the wins!!! I love it!!!
Let's Go Pens!!!

Here's what I would like to see.
Regulation OR overtime win-- 3 pts
Shootout win-- 2 pts
Shootout loss-- 1 pt
Regulation OR overtime loss-- Some nice parting gifts
Throw in a 10 minute 4-on-4 overtime and I think we will quit seeing teams sandbag it for a shootout.

call of accountability is favourite using fact of a few issues. a million. that's basic. just about every person can %. it up and do properly, making all the tryhard kiddies think of they are certainly good at FPS's. till they go play something like Halo or Battlefield and get destroyed, do they comprehend that they suck. 2. It has a helpful formulation. they have been employing a similar formulation for the reason that CoD 4, that have been given the sequence as favourite as that's now. Why replace the formulation whether it continues to be promoting? (besides the reality that they should replace, using fact the sequence is now boring) 3. that's gimmicky. C'mon, killstreaks and perks? provide me a gun and a great group and that's all i choose. So, to end, CoD is heavily hyped up, lives off of CoD 4's fulfillment, and is basic to %. up and play.

I hate the 3 point games but Pittsburgh is smart as they seem to play for the shootout. Same combo every time-Christianson-Malkin-Crosby. That said, if they want to win in the play-offs then they better start learning how to protect a lead and score in overtime since the SO won't be an option.

You can't tie in hockey. But, it's either team that battles back at the end and ties it up. They've won 5 out of the last 7 in OT or shoot out. They've been playing play off hockey against good competition (only team not in the hunt : Philly)
I'm guessing your jealous that the Pens will be in the playoffs this year eh?
