My 10mo. old (27lbs.) has swollen nasal passages and is miserable. I have several meds. but they're mostly for coughing/ allergy symptoms. What is the ingredient to look for that actually shrinks the nasal passages?

calling a pediatrician is not an option at 9:30pm.....not where I live anyway.

I'd be careful giving a baby that age over the counter meds. Try saline nose drops. Another good idea is letting the bathroom steam up and taking him in there. (if you don't have a heated vaporizer) Try a giving him some orange juice too, kick up the vitamin C.

Good luck :)

As someone else has said - try using a steamy bathroom to help unblock babies nose. If you run a warm bath to create a steamy room add a few drops of pure lavender essential oil (not frangrant oils).

A tiny bit of Baby Vicks will help as well.

Having said that though, I think it would be better for you to ring a childrens hospital.

DONOT give any medicines to a baby unless instructed by a doctor, especially anything with antihistamines.

I don't think you can get that kind of medicine for infants over the counter. However, you could ask the pharmacist at your local pharmacy and he will be able to point you in the right direction.
