I hate to tell you, but yu really can't teach fish to do tricks like you can a cat or dag. Fish aren't really all that bright. You can teach them small little things like eating from your hand, but not what you might be thinking of.

Pretty much anything with a nervous system can be trained using classical and operant conditioning.

I know that goldfish anyway can be trained to go through mazes, play soccer and stuff. It might be more difficult to train a whole school of fish though..

Good luck - I'd like to train our Betta to do stuff but I don't really have enough time on my hands for it.

Im not sure how to say this, but you cant really do tricks with fish. I was thinking maybe you could like put real food and fake food in to see if they can identify which one is real. Something along those lines. Pretty much with fish, you have to think of something yourself.

I would stand in front of thier tank, holding a goldfish cracker... show them what pattern to swim in with the demonstration of your cracker, if they comply , give em a flake... if they dont, take a bite of tuna straight from the can .. or bite the head of your gold fish cracker off right in front of them.. good luck :)

Stick a pencil in the water, wiggle it around, and say in a loud, clear and commanding voice, "Fish, swim away from the pencil . . . swim away from the pencil."
