Go rent Phantom of the Opera. the best way I can describe what you want to be is Decadent. Beautiful attire, simple masque. Elegance is key, and I would def go for a wig, its always fun and a nice touch.

the difference between a costume party and a masquerade ball, is that at the costume party you are usually trying to be scary/funny/clever in your costuming but at a masquerade ball you can dress as anything, just a dressy prom dress, but then have your eyes hidden by a mask, with the main idea being that you are unrecognizable.

a masquerade ball, is a custume dance, just like the one from edgar allan poe. most masquerade balls have a theme, so ask about the theme and work from there. great movies for a masquerade ball is old english dances, the movie EVER AFTER with drew barrymore, and i believe PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, you just need a mask and a great suit or dress that goes with your mask.

a masquerade ball is like the olden days costume party.
people would dress in fancy clothes (ballgowns) and have masks. just face masks, really elegant, not like the wierd ones you see today.

It's a costume ball with masks and alot of Fun. you will enjoy it if you get invited to one. its free food and lots of dancing
