are you supposed to trim their claws? his are very long and are kinda gross looking. i think i should but i dont want to hurt him. so are you supposed to? [my hamster is like a year old but i got him a few months ago.]

No, you shouldn't need to. You can give him a piece of sandpaper on the bottom of his cage, which he can then use to "file his nails".

I would take him to the vet for this. They can easily bleed to death if you cut the quick (nail blood supply). If any of our 34 small animals need their nails trimmed, I'd take them to the vet for trimming.

PS: My vet told me to never put sand paper in the cage it will slice their feet.
