I think it's because men suppose that when we apply make-up it takes up a lot of our time and that we're obsessed with ourselves, what people think of us, how we look, etc. People think you're all ditsy or something. Either that or you think you have an idea of how to apply make-up when really you're messing it up. Looking like a clown is not a good way to earn respect.

There is a preconceived stereotype that there are smart women and there are pretty women, and the stereotype dictates that a woman cannot be both pretty and smart. Clearly, this is a false stereotype, as we all know someone who is both.
However, we also know a very pretty woman who doesn't always seem to know what's going on as well as a genius girl who looks like her hair hasn't seen a comb in years. It sort of falls under the idea that if someone wears makeup, they're insecure or they're too focused on the material/physical aspect of life and basically, haven't focused or spent any time on maturing their mind.
It's a silly thing to believe, but depending on someone's personal experience, they may have encountered so many empty headed beautiful women in their time.

I wear make-up and it's to feel better about myself. At first guys avoided me in High School but eventually grew up. Now I feel overwhelmed. As long as you don't apply it too heavy or use colors that look like a clown, you're fine.
Also take into consideration it's not what's on the outside that counts, it's what's on the inside. Your personality is what really matters. If you let that shine, no guy on earth will care if you wear make-up or not.

i do no longer understand if that's rather real. If a girl is wearing a real looking (study easy) volume of makeup interior the best colours and that's wisely utilized, i think of maximum folk will take her heavily. no count if that's stunning or incorrect, maximum folk choose others on their seems yet, in case you act like somebody who must be taken heavily, maximum in all probability you would be. yet, in case you place on too lots makeup in loopy colours, that's no longer ordinary for persons to take you heavily becuase you do no longer seem such as you're taking your self heavily.

I think it because the women who you can tell are wearing makeup are wearing too much or not the right make up for their complexion, and men (and sometimes women) think if you don't know how to put make up on right, how can I trust you to do any thing else right. Sad but true.

"Seems like" is the key phrase. Is that from personal experience? I am a woman and although I've never thought of it before; people(men included) take me as seriously with makeup as without. Perhaps that is because I am confident when I am taking care of business - made up or not. Know and love your business and it won't "seem like" any one is treating you differently. Good Luck!

Well I'm not sire if this has anything to do with it, but in one of my classes these boys thought that girls who wear makeup are somehow coincided, because they viewed it as vanity or covering how someone really is or it was something like that they said.

I think that most men prefer minimal to little makeup. I see many women that wear much to much, and generally they do not know how to apply it and end up looking trashy.

Because they take themselves more seriously. "Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price" (1 Peter 3:3-4).

i hate to generalize.
but usually heavy-hitting women don't wear a lot of makeup.
my experience is inexperience, insecure women wear more makeup. a woman who commands respect like a high-powered attorney or a CEO doesn't wear a lot of makeup. my guess is that you don't realize when women wear light makeup.
