We are reading it for my English I class and so far I don't understand why parents and other people in today's society want to ban the book. I find it very good and it just gives a person more things to think about.
What are your ideas on banning book, this one and others?
What are some other books that you feel should or shouldn't be banned?

I think the key issue is on racism, especially regarding the black man accused of raping a white woman in a rural area somewhere in Alabama (I'm sorry if it's another state). Contrarily speaking, if the story was portrayed in the opposite angle, that is, a white man accused of raping a black woman. I think it would be another story, less uproar or no ban. Thus we can see in any civilized country, if such a racism dogma or bias persists, how can we call ourselves as educated, civilized human beings since we should break the racism barrier for the better world of brotherhood/sisterhood.

It's an excellent book ...and yes it focusses on racism and prejudice and how people are led by perception. But it is such a literary gem and ever so touching. Whoever wants to ban it is stupid or ashamed as the book highlights exactly what society is like.

Some want to bann it because it talks about a rape. Others because it is about racism. I think it is a very good book.

Many people want to ban the book because it reminds them of the period when racism was institutionalized. It keeps reminding us how much racial hatred there was/is in the U.S.

You have to remember that the generations before us are closed minded, selfish and generally f-ing everything up. They don't want us to become a unified civilization, where people hate eachother because that person is an ******, not because that person is different.
