Yesterday's statement on torture suggested a new determination on the part of the evangelical churches to detach themselves from the Republican party and stake their independence - even if it is from a position more traditionally associated with the left

Is the right generally agreeable to torture? I can handle alot of libs suck, neoco's are fascists but isnt it generally believed that torture is not something americans do currently?

This is something that has been disturbing me lately -- it took a while for it to occur to me.

Even worse than the fact that we now routinely torture people is the fact that many will feel compelled to justify it.

It is not fair to claim that all on the right support torture, many do not.

But just look at a lot of the answers you've gotten.

BTW, I read a about a study, on a science news site, that psychological torture is fully as damaging as physical.

But, no, I wouldn't say opposition to torture is rightly considered "more traditionally associated with the left" -- it's becoming associated with the left because we seem to be the one's making the most noise about it. (Especially after McCain caved on the issue.)

And, as I say, support is growing because fans of Bush feel they must support everything he does.

This is a deep wound to this country. We were not, 10 years ago, a nation that believed in torture; that's changing.

A few years ago (before it was common knowledge that we torture), I read a survey PEW did on attitudes about torture among Americans -- majority against, even in situations you'd think dicey. I read the actual questions, with the percents saying this, that, etc.

You could look for it on their site.

Dunno if it asked political affiliation or not.

But I have been wondering recently if those percentages have changed, since it's now been over 6 years we have been torturers; and it's been widely knows for several of them.

-- Man, a lot of people on this site are really disgusting, aren't they? The stuff I see -- and the ignorance.

Torture simply doesn't work as an intelligence-gathering tool.

Experts in intelligence-gathering are agreed. People say whatever the torturers want to hear; they don't tell the truth.

That's not it's purpose; it is an act of terrorism -- cowing the enemy, and making everyone know there's no brutality we refuse to commit.

Not to mention all the people we tortured and later released, saying "they weren't terrorists, and didn't have any information about terrorists."

gotta go; there's a question asking me to prove I'm a patriot ....

Your LIB friend CalLawGuy has his fact reversed. He meant to say all DEMs thinks that way.

Now to you, if you think you can drink your latte and read the New Yorker and feel guilty about all the wrongs the Republicans are doing while your fellow professors are telling our youth independent bad Communism good.

Just think out of all the info. we have received over the years since this country has been around how much torture do you really think has taken place by both parties.

At least I a true Independent or Republican can say we save lives every day , even before they are born.

Any form of torture is not acceptable in a 'civilized' society.
Says a lot for the current Administration.

I don't have to even read the statement. By the phrasing of your initial question, the answer is going to be "no".

There isn't a single statement that everyone on the "right" (or the "left") all believes. And no way to sum up the mindset and views of over a 100 million people in a single paragraph.

So, any statement that purports to represent the views of that many people cannot be accurate.

oftentimes i might pass with #3, Jim. i think of that on the single hand, we are able to obtain His prefer by making use of cooperating together with his application of conforming us to the image of His Son (Ro 8), our skill to cooperate and positively our existence is a latest from Him. Our faith isn't of ourselves, lest every physique ought to boast. all of it comes from Him. specific, we are able to advantage His approval as we become the mature and powerfuble grownup infants He desires us to be; the brethren of Jesus the Messiah. we've the liberty and the privilege to work together our wills together with his as a manner to head in direction of this purpose. i think of that's significant to word, although, that approval and love are actually not an identical element. He approves persons (our habit) as quickly as we behave in a loving way, consistent together with his character and coaching. He loves us (and He loves the international; he's not a respecter of one individual over yet another) even at the same time as we are yet His enemies, for it grew to become into then that Christ died for us. If we were obedient infants already, there might have been no might desire to keep us from sin and dying.

Torture has been approved and advocated by Attorney General Gonzales, Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.
Republicans love torture, just like they like molesting little boys, S&M, B&D, and bestiality.
The only thing Repubs don't like is enlisting to fight, they would rather hang around truck stop mens' rooms.

I support what the liberals call torture. It is not.

The torture they refer to is

Putting terrorists in cold rooms
Blasting loud music
Humiliation

Quite frankly, if beating them gets the information they need, do it. We are too easy on the enemy.
