I'm looking for some inexpensive tourist spots in Texas, somewhere between El Paso and Oklahoma City. Since I'm going with my family it would be nice if the destinations could appeal to parents as well as teens. If you want any more details just ask and I'll get back to you. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have to go to El Paso. My brother is graduating from his Basic and AIT there. We're taking a vacation on the side.

The responders don't seem to know their geography very well. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio are way out of your way. Carlsbad Caverns is not at all and an excellent suggestion. Nearby is also Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Near Odessa is the Odessa Meteor Crater, and the American Airpower Heritage Museum/Confederate Air Force HQ'ers. There is a Pioneer Museum just east of Lubbock and around Amarillo is Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, Cadillac Ranch, McClellan Creek National Grassland, L. Meredith Aquatic and Wildlife Museum, Black Kettle National Grassland, etc. The Oklahoma Route 66 museum is in Clinton.

OK, it's a little out of your way, but not that far out. When you're in El Paso, I would head northeast and go to the Carlsbad Caverns in Carlsbad, NM. From there you can continue east toward Oaklahoma City. The caverns are so beautiful and fascinating. You'll love them. Definitely take the Kings Palace Tour. It's $8 for adults. You only need about two or three hours there, so when my friend and I went, we still got in a half-day of driving that day. But the city of Carlsbad is super boring, so I wouldn't stay the night there if you don't have to. On the other hand, there's really not anywhere within hours of there that's better to spend the night. I guess you'll have to make the call on that one. Have fun!

The Alamo in San Antonio is the best I can come up with. But also check out the state parks. They offer horse back riding, and lots of other good stuff. Type in texas on your yahoo search and get tons of info, Some sites offer printable coupons. Have a great time.
