How do I make my Java run faster with games such as Runescape?

Question

When I load up the Java applet to play the game, ever since it loads it lags.

My PC specs that might be related follow below :


Manufacturer:
MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD

Processor:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz

Memory:
2048MB RAM

Video Card:
RADEON X850 Series

Operating System:
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)


I however, think that it is something to do with my Java files, but
I try re-downloading and nothing works. I need help with this badly, I don't NEED Runescape, but I would like to be able to play once in a while.

Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do to speed up your java directly. Java can only run as fast as your computer.

Perhaps you should consider uninstalling some of the software on the computer that you do not need. If you have things like AIM and GoogleTalk and YahooMessenger all loading every time you logon those all eat into your available memory and processor and can slow down your computer.

I'm semi-understanding of the stuff you put on there about your computer and it looks like the stuff you have should be way more than enough for Runescape. I would suggest re-posting this in the Computers and Internet under either Software or General for better results.
