I've tried plunging them both and draino but they won't budge.

You could buy a "snake" at the hardware store. It's this metal thingy that you twist and turn and it goes down the drain and usually punches the clog through, same as some rooter service except theirs has a motor. Or call a plumber. The snake is about $10-$20, the plumber is about $100 - $200.

One note: Be careful with anything that you pull out of your drain because anything down there is covered with caustic draino. Wear rubber gloves.

I'M A PLUMBER! You can use a liquid drain cleaner, but if that doesn't work you may have to call a plumber to snake out the drain. You could have a pipe separation (usually in older homes with cast iron pipes) or a severe obstruction that won't dissolve. If your tub and toilet are clogged, they both probably connect somewhere together and the block is around there. Check with friends or neighbors to find somebody reputable who won't try to rebuild your whole plumbing sysytem for a hefty fee. ALWAYS tell the plumber if you put chemicals in the drain, so they don't get an unpleasant surprise. If you buy or rent a snake you could find yourself in a jam if it gets snagged and won't come back out. Call somebody qualified to help. Remember that only toilet paper should be flushed, no tampons, paper towels, diapers or cleaning wipes or condoms. I've pulled some bizarre things from peoples toilet drains. Good luck.

Most of the advice given so far would work if it were JUST the tub not draining. But if your toilet is not draining, much bigger problem... literally. A tub drain is about 2" diameter. Toilet is about 4" - 6". So for toilet to be blocked, you have large clog, or if you have a septic system instead of city sewage, a backed up septic system. You don't state if you have other toilets, sinks, etc which are also not draining. If you have others, and they ARE draining, then the blockage is somewhere in the pipe leading from the blocked toilet and where the others join it. Difficult to explain without a diagram and if you're not familiar with plumbing.

The sewage cleanout plug others mentioned is probably going to need to be opened, or the septic system pumped, if you have one. If you have no idea what I'm writing about, I'd call a plumber... soon!

Hope this helps!

Do you know if there is a clean out in the yard? If there is, you can remove the cap, but be careful. If the stoppage is holding back a lot of water, opening the line could cause sewage to "jump" out of the pipe, until the pressure is relieved. A sewer "snake" is required to get to the stoppage, and sometimes a standard machine doesn't have a long enough cable. If you can't find a clean out, you can access the sewer by running the snake down the vent on the roof. The other option is to pull the toilet, and insert the snake from there. In any event, it is not a pleasant situation, and that is what plumbers specialize in. Good luck to you!

the main stack is stopped up - needs to be augered out or you could run a "Drain King" down the toilet. Drain King is a brand name it is like thick rubber balloon with a valve in it. You put it on the end of a garden hose and push it down to the sight of the blockage where it won't go any farther the turn on the water and the balloon will expand against the sides of the drain pipe until the pressure builds up enough to open the valve in the balloon. The blast of water from the valve will penetrate the blockage and clear the drain . I did my house 15 years ago and it has been fine ever since.
Good Luck !

There is a device at Lowe's or home depot I do not remember the name of it. But you hook a garden hose to your sink or toilet water supply and attach this to the other end then you put it in the drain and turn the water on the rubber end starts to swell to the size of the pipe and when its snug against the pipe walls it starts filling your drain pipe with water and when the water gets to the clog it continues to put pressure on it till if breaks loose and unclogs your drain. When your drain is clear the water automatically drains out and you pull it out from the drain. Its easier than it sounds.

whatever you do, be careful if you put some kind of strong stuff in there to eat the gunk. had a friend who did and then went below in basement and loosened pipe and was horribly burned. took a good 6 months to heal up.its usually hair in the tub or sink and other answers have told you how to get it out.

Pull the drain cover off and send a wire snake down the pipe. Then when you pull out the pipe there will be a gross black gob :) and if that doesn't work you have to call a plumber

GOOD LUCK :)
