Obviously because of the fact that it's a sin and environmental. Since Christians are not gay and are overwhelmingly Conservative, there are not that many gay Republicans.

I'm a conservative bisexual/pansexual woman, and I know of many gay conservatives, so I don't know if your theory holds credence.

Mostly, I think it's because of the polarizing of the parties and their both becoming more extreme; with conservativism being more tied to evangelical Christianity. People who don't like that trend will side more with liberalism. And it certainly doesn't help that the conservative party line is basically anti-homosexuality.

I'm actually more of a Libertarian than anything else, because I feel that basically there is no real difference between the parties in terms of government size, spending, etc..- it's all petty rhetoric on divisive issues which are no doubt important, but seem to be used to mask bigger questions.

P.S.- just so you know, homosexuality isn't a sin, there are such things as gay Christians (quite a few, in fact), and I have no idea what you mean in saying "it's environmental".

There are HUGE numbers of conservative gays -- though I agree with you -- there shouldn't be. Be that as it may, about 35% of gays vote Republican according to exit polls -- and many, many, many gay young men serve in Washington at the behest of the party of the Right. If you doubt this, I suggest reading "Blinded by the Right" by David Brock.

I myself grew up Republican and left the Right entirely when I recognized the crazy people now running my parent's party. I do not understand why so many gays stay with them, just because they were raised that way.

BTW -- have the common courtesy to say evangelicals, not Christians. There are many liberal Christian churches, I know, I belong to one with a bit over 1000 members. Those churches FULLY ACCEPT gay persons as they are. Thanks for that courtesy. To use the word "Christian" instead, and thus imply that evangelicals speak for all people of Christian faith, is both disingenuous and dishonest. Some would characterize it as an outright lie. Come to think of it, if I know the person has been told and thus knows better, so would I.

Kind thoughts,

Hi GodBless!

There is a GREAT BIG difference between being a conservative and being a Republican.

I'm gay, out and proud, and I'm also a conservative fundamentalist Protestant Christian minister. In other words, I believe all that the Bible teaches (the good old King James Version) - with the exception that I do not agree with the church's interpretation regarding homosexuality. That does not mean that I ignore the verses that Christians use against homosexuality; it means that I ACCEPT those verses but I believe that the churches twist their MEANING and interpret them in a manner which supports their homophobia. I believe in sex-in-marriage and that gays and lesbians Christians are bound by the same biblical Laws that apply to our heterosexual counterparts.

But I wouldn't touch the Republican Party, which in no way represents our Constitutional Republic or the Christian faith, with a ten foot pole! The Republican Party is a platform for dictators and theocracy, which is a violation and betrayal of all that the Constitution and Declaration of Independence stand for. Those documents protect everyone's right to practice their faith without discrimination, but it denies ANYONE power to dictate and enforce those views on anyone else. For example, a person has the right to believe that homosexuality is sinful - BUT, another person has the right to believe that it is NOT. Therefore the person who believes that homosexuality is sinful is free to not engage in anything of a homosexual nature, and those who believe that it is not sinful is free to engage in anything of a homosexual nature. Each human is BORN sovereign; America is a nation of sovereigns. and no sovereign has power to dictate, grant or deny the rights of other sovereigns.

A true conservative believes this: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, to the extent that it does not harm or impede the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of others.

I am a Christian who happens to be gay. When I was 18 I registered as a Republican and was a Republican until 2003. My political beliefs in regards to fiscal policy are very conservative. I believe in some of the actions of Americans for Tax Reform. I believe in the second amendment in regards to gun ownership. There is a group named the Log Cabin Republicans that supports Republican policies regarding such issues.

The Republican Party has changed over the past few years to become less concerned with a balanced budget and disciplined spending while becoming more concerned with denying rights to some of its citizens. Although there are some parts of the Republican Party platform that have merit, these values lose their luster when looking at the big picture of the Republicans pandering to the far right in order to gain a few votes while demonizing others. The Republican Party has forced gay people, gay peoples families, gay peoples friends, and those who who oppose discrimination against gay people to seek the only viable alternative in the Democratic Party.

Actually, there are quite a few gay and lesbian republicans, which is what I'm assuming you meant by conservatives.

Log Cabin Republicans is a grassroots organization. They believe in low taxes, limited government, strong defense, free markets, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. Log Cabin represents an important part of the American family-taxpaying, hard working people who proudly believe in this nation's greatness. They promote a fiscally conservative approach to business, budgeting, and government social issues.

They also believe all Americans have the right to liberty, freedom, and equality, and stand for the idea that all Americans deserve to be treated equal-regardless of their sexual orientation.

the certainty that that's a liberal state would not somewhat make lots of a distinction. Maryland does tend to vote democratic, i think. that's a controversy that I see NO good answer to. what's unusual is that some states say that disallowing them does discriminate, and different states say that's does. lasuremartin -- properly, particularly frankly, i do no longer think of it says interior the form that any one has the best to get married, does it? So as a manner to have equivalent stunning for all without discrimination, that's and can be constitutionally allowed, except the form specifically prohibits it. that's the way rule of regulation has constantly been interpreted interior the U. S.!

LOL!

Gay Christian, *and* conservative Libertarian here.

Educate yourself, and you will find that it is indeed possible to be all of these things, and *without* drugs, at that.

But I think that you already know that, and are just looking to ruffle feathers. Either that, or you are a gay liberal, and want to make conservatives look bad. Either way, I feel for you.

May you come to know the Lord Jesus, and have a peaceful eternity.

The amount of gay republicans have nothing to do with Xian voters being mostly conservative. There is a gay republican group called 'Log Cabin Republicans.'

You can count me as one of the more conservative Republicans, with exception to their stance on gay rights. Unfortunately too many extreme members of the part are a turn off to most gays, and on the Democrats side, they lie to gays to get our support since it is assumed we have nowhere else to turn

What? Have you never heard of Rev. Ted Haggard, or his associate, Rev. Chris Beard ... both conservative Christians, and both dismissed from their jobs as pastors because the church did not agree with their being gay. Others will be outed; it's just a matter of time.
