I agree exactly as Tina D has said.

Good advice!

The way your baby responds is a better indicator than temp alone.

If bubby is listless, grumpy, lethargic, has dull eyes, sleepy or off his/her food then this is a good indication things are not right.

A dangerous temp is over 39C.

If there is a high temp (over 38C) and bubs is still eating, drinking & responsive then I'd try childrens Panadol or Nurofen (with food) and/or a tepid bath (not cold) & wait for temp to drop.

Make sure that you give plenty of cooled boiled water or breastmilk because a dehydrated baby is not good.

Remember - regardless of what anybody says... Mother knows best (meaning a mother knows her child & her childs behavior better than anyone.
If you are concerned ring your local children's hospital for advice.

Ok..this is what I do. When my little girl gets sick with fever...low grade is usually 37-38 I give the tylenol and keep checking to see if it's even bringing it down a couple of degrees. If not and it persists and she gets sicker(stops drinking, eating, becomes listless) then I take her in. If it's over 38 I usually take her in but only if the meds won't take down the fever. 39 is automatic for me to go to the hospital just for piece of mind that she's alright.

Do not let your child get more than a 102 for two or three days. If you are able to break the fever each time. Babies get infections easily and they are the most likely to have ill effects of high fevers.
