U.S: It could be Detroit, San Jose, or Buffalo
Canada: Edmonton, Calgary, or Montreal.
In terms of the best fans, I think Calgary has the strongest support..their support during 04 Stanley Cup run was unbelievable. And it's either Edmonton or Nashville in terms of the best whinning fans.

Great teams are always hard to play-your arena or theirs. However there are no great teams in the NHL right now. Typically, Canadian teams are harder to play on the road-Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver are great buildings and have fans who understand the game and know how to make home ice mean something. Detroit and Philadelphia have pretty intense buildings also. The worst are the ducks-their fans are ignorant-they boo off sides and TV time outs! Fans in Dallas, Anaheim, and Nashville seem asleep. I think the red lights and flames make Calgary probably The scariest building to play in. Detroit is the scariest overall-because you can get robbed in the parking lot.

I think New Jersey is the toughest place to play in.

Just kidding.

All things equal, the Flyers. Under current circumstances, I'll go with Vancouver or Ottawa. Cup hungry Canadian cities wtih a real shot at going all the way. Unless you are the Leafs, then the crowd's usually split 50/50 between Leafs fans and Sens fans. So my final answer--the Vancouver Canucks.

Honorable mention to the Rangers building. The Garden gets loud because they have crazy fans and the building's roof it totally flat. None of the sound gets lost in the upper atmosphere, so it all stays at ice-level.

a million. green Bay- Lambeau field (there team is sturdy now, so as that facilitates the climate) 2. Indianapolis- replaced into the RCA Dome (except you're New England and take their indicators, this is totally difficult to win here) 3. New England- Gillette Stadium (many bandwagon followers and a extensive seating means makes for a great style of noise. additionally, they in no way lost there this season) 4. Pittsburgh- Heinz field (the gang gets incredibly loud and is extremely dependable) 5. Minnesota- Metrodome (like it or hate it, the Metrodome is often between the loudest interior the NFL. Minnesota won't have the desirable highway documents, yet their homestead documents are consistently between the main consistant regardless of the season)

You cannot count out the loud and obnoxious fans of the Garden. Rangers fans are bred in the city with the most assholes in the wolrd, New York. Even the Garden staff will recognize an outsider. On more than one occasion I have witnessed a fight in the stands clearly instigated by the Ranger fan and the Garden Security has escorted the opposing team's fan out of the Garden while the Ranger fan was alloewed to play. Nobody in the building that is not for the Rangers is given any leverage and that includes the opposing players. They have to be intimidated.

The Saddledome in Calgary
3 reasons
1) the fans
2) the city
3) the team

1) I once brought my vancouver-loving friend to a game at the 'dome to watch our bet, and I had to defend him from being hit with beer cups. The fans in Calgary are diehard, just look at the RED MILE during their cup run.

2) Calgary (along with Denver) has one of the highest elevations. Players used to playing in Florida or California have trouble adjusting, so there playing isn't quite as good in the 'dome. This most likely intimidates the players as well.

3) BEST HOME RECORD IN HOCKEY. The Flames are just about unbeatable in the 'dome and that obviously is in the minds of the opposing team and coach.

I think with the new top-of-the-line arenas that are being built today that no place is particularly tougher than another. It pretty much depends on how competitive a team is.

Now go back 20 years and places like the Spectrum, Boston and Maple Leaf Gardens, Montreal Forum, Chicago Stadium, and the small playing surface Buffalo Aud were tougher places to play than todays venues.

All of the above and would add that Philly's fans can be nasty and the loudest used to be Chicago. The best home records this year are not really known for the fan noise but for difficulty to play in are Anaheim and Nashville because they have only lost 5 home games-sorry Detroit only has 4 losses so there you go and they are pretty loud there.

The toughest arena has got to be Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings, and actually they hold the NHLs top home record losing only 4 times at home. The Joe has so much history, intimidation, and its packed every game. They have the best tradition in the Octopus toss, and Detroit is the one and only Hockey Town.

I hate agreeing with this being a Sabres fan, but Philly is one tough arena to play in. The Air Canada Center is not a walk in the park either for an opposing tram.
