I think the laws should be changed so that only women could carry guns. That would nullify men's superior physical strength and would deter men from causing bodily harm to women.

Men are much more likely to attack other men than women.

Tukie2, I'd like to know where you got your stats on having a your gun taken away from you. According the FBI's Uniform Crime report, using a gun to defend yourself is the BEST way to keep from getting hurt.

That being said I agree completely that anyone who owns a gun should have proper safety training and anyone who carries one for self defense should be properly trained in appropriate tactics.

A gun is simply one tool in your self defense toolbox. It should not be the ONLY one however. Avoidance and awareness are the place to start. Avoiding risky behavior, learning how to de-escalate a situation and unarmed techniques should be learned as well. If you only have a hammer in your tool box, soon every problem begins to look like a nail.

Besides, if only women had guns, what would stop them from becoming the aggressive predators? Have you seen all the stories about female teachers having sex with student's lately?

That's actually a fascinating idea... I think most murders are committed by men. Women might be more sucessful at using guns as self defense when necessary and not for offense. Of course, there's all kinds of practical problems, like the fact that men would easily get access to the women's guns... by taking them from her home / purse or wrestling it out of her hands. And the woman might lose her nerve or her aim and not be able or willing to use the gun. I'm not sure I would be able to shoot someone, unless I was damn sure it was a situation in which I would die and it's hard to make that realization in a split second...

Not necessarily. I teach self defense to women and men, and the first thing we teach women is that if you have a gun and don't take classes etc....the first thing anyone will do is take it away from you and shoot you with your own gun.....statistically proven. Also, most women will hesitate before shooting, now look, I said MOST, not all. You are better off learning to defend yourself with a basic hand to hand defense class, as they teach how to stay away from predators, how to not look like a victim etc. If worse came to worse, get a very large boyfriend. I am not saying that women shouldn't carry guns, I do. BUT, the normal female should be trained first.

i think its sad that women seem to need the protection of a gun. I personally despise guns as "carriers of death" and "false power". however in a world where women are constantly victims of varying degrees of sexism and violence...someone or something should protect us. why not we...ourselves. personally guns kinda scare me. i vote that we carry 10lb weights in our purses and pity the fool that steps within our arms reach. aim for the temple ladies...knock him out and proceed with your safety and your breath.

equalizers from what? not all men are stronger than women, there are women who are more physically stronger than men.. if what we are just going to base on issuing gun to anybody is because of physical strength the what will happen to kids, handicapped, weakling and physically challenge persons. i guess without offending the NRA i should say NO GUNS TO ANYBODY, ANYWHERE, ANYHOW, FOR WHATEVER REASONS IT MAY BE. combinations of guns and people will only results to bad things to society.
