Oh wow. I dont know alot about Solid Works, but the engineers at my shop use it ALL the time. If we are thinking of the same solid works, it is a CAD program. CAD(Computer Assisted Drafting) is used to draw up blueprints and drawings of parts. Solid Works is exactly this, but you can make it 3D, rotate it, and even make assemblies with other parts. From what I hear, and from what Ive seen it do, it is a VERY helpful tool for this kind of work. Hope this answers your question.
