They will feel like the worst menstrual cramp you can possibly imagine. They might also come with some serious back pain (back labor). I had both with my son. Also your stomach will be hard as a brick. You wont be able to push your skin in at all during true contractions. Just walk around some. If they go away or lighten up then probably just BH. Trust me you will definately know when you are in true labor. As always when in doubt call your Dr. even if it is 3 A.M. Better to know than be up all night worring. Good luck.

I had BH about 36 weeks and went to the hospital. Horrible pressure in my back and cramping in the stomach. When they hooked me up to the monitor the doc said the spikes were minimal. I thought "My God, what will real contractions feel like?". The spikes were not even half way on the paper.

When I was pregnant the first time I would ask "what do contractions feel like? Is it like you have bad diarhea?" Well they are worse then that I found out. For me, they got so strong that I thought I was going to vomit. They make your whole body crazy especially as you get closer to labor and you know they will be coming again shortly. It is a pain like I never felt before (much worse then diarhea pain) and something that you just have to experience as no one can explain the intensity to you. The contractions are your uterus squeezing to get your baby out of the canal. After giving birth to my first child I said to my friend, "Those pains were crazy" and she said "Yeah, just think of how the baby felt coming out." That changed my perspective having my second child.

Wait till you meet that baby! Good luck and God Bless!

I will tell you what my doctor told me...that they will feel "just a little bit different," and that you'll "be able to tell the difference." Which is the most frustrating answer!! But, with my son, it was true. I went to the hospital happy and smiling, thinking I was in labor (I wasn't). Of course, I was sent home with his words of wisdom above, and I was not happy. You want you know...a direct answer! "It feels exactly like THIS..." But, when I was on the way back home, I had my first real one. And I knew it was real..it was just different. You will definitely know. Also, the BH seem to feel just in the front like a tightening, uncomfortable even. I remember the real ones coming from the back to the front in waves. And way more painful. I hope this helps. I'm 37 weeks with my second, and just as nervous about it as I was the first time...you really do forget! Good luck, and best wishes for a happy, healthy delivery :)

You will tell the difference. I was so worried I wouldn't be able to tell when I was in real labor.
With bh, they were uncomfortable, tightning in my belly and such. But with real contractions, I actually had back labor, so I felt this pressure, and pain in my back along with the tightning in my belly.

I wouldn't bother timing them too much, you'll just drive yourself crazy. I remember timing BH contractions and they seemed to be regular and coming closer together. But obviously was not the real thing.
I just walked around and if it didn't work I'd try to rest, when that didn't work either I knew it must have been real labor

They are similar but the "real" contractions can be much stronger..the BH contractions are the real contractions actually--they are like warm-ups..and if your body slowly goes into labor over a long time--then you may not feel a huge change-- 9 I know people who ahd this experince--lucky gals--and they really did not ahve as much intense pain--said it was like extra painful period cramps) it might be a bit more intense but it will be the same--if you go into labor suddenly--or unfortunately--are induced--like I was--you will experience the contractions as extremely painful--like jump-starting a car in the cold--Your body may convulse, etc (mine did)--it can be horrible--So--try to let it happen in its own time--it can go either way---Good Luck:)

Time them. If they are regular they are most likely real. BH feel real, but are usually irregular. My contractions felt like menstrual cramps at first. They kept getting more intense and coming closer together over time.

bh will go away if you walk around for awhile and will be more erradic where real contractions come mmore ona time scale and dont go away. If your not sure wait as long as you can to go to the hosp. In most cases if you can handle the pain they wont do anything until your water breaks anyways

well everyone is different. when i had my 2 children they felt like extreme period cramps, they come and go consistently and a few mins apart. for me they hurt so bad i couldnt move i had to stop walking or talking or whatever i was doing to get through them, this was the real thing.

contractions are like really bad gas. but it comes in regular time intervals. If this happens and you have to bend over and grab your belly its a contraction.

BH are not nearly as painful, they are more like pressure, but not pain.

At least was my experience.
